so what do i write about....?

So its been a while that I haven’t written anything and time-and-again people keep saying to me that I should write something. Times and things have changed for me significantly, if not drastically, over the last few months. My friends, near and far, have always encouraged me to write and have always survived (J) my write-ups. I have no idea how they feel nor how they react, but its always motivating for me to know that whatever I write, there are people on different IPs and machines who will be there to at least read it once! But the question that comes to me, which is the quintessence of writing, is what do I write about?

I usually write about things that I see, ideas that struck me, stories that I make while observing people around and sometimes events that happen to me. I need some kind of connection with the subject to start writing about. Lately, due to my work, I haven’t have a lot of time to realize my observed introspection, felt connection and things around to put down to words. So I am just trying to think of all the various ‘pointers’ that have crossed my mind, for the past few months, that I can pen down.

  • My last day at Houston was a day that I will never forget. Frankly I was never a huge fan of Houston (Ahoy NYC!!) but this was the city that accepted me. I have had some of the most memorable moments of my life in Houston. My early days of getting acquainted, getting used to the American way of studies, earning to meet the expenses, doing crazy things, meeting people and making friends! My last day everything came on to me overwhelmingly. I spent my last night just talking and bidding farewell to the great friends I made. Somewhere I know that I might not be returning back to Houston, but if given a choice, I will surely do.

  • Portland – my new home. The ‘city of roses’. Portland gave me a huge big welcome. Though its less posh than Houston, the weather here is perfect for me. I came here at a time when winters were subsiding. I loved it when I saw those colors blossoming around. New office, new home, new surroundings and new friends. I never knew that you can make good friends at work too. I still cherish the walks to my office amidst those light snowfalls. It just feels wonderful. Not to mention that the city is surrounded with abundant natural and scenic beauty. On a clear sunny day (which is not very often because of the overcast weather), you can actually see snow covered mountains circumference-ing all around the city

  • My road trip to the coastline of Pacific Northwest was an amazing journey. The beaches are so calm and beautiful. Not as crowded as other commercial beaches of the country (and neither as rocky and inhabited as Galveston beach). The Pacific-Highway 101 is a ride on mountains that shore the Pacific Ocean. It reminded me of the island from ‘Lost’. We stayed there till the sunset. It gave me a lot of time to think and ponder by just sitting on the beach and looking at the ocean. I missed those wonderful times that I had spent on Kerala beaches in India. And to watch the sunset on a beach is always a treat to the eyes.

  • My trip back to Houston for my Graduation ceremony is another great ’pointer’ I have in my memory. I returned back to Houston for a weekend to attend my graduation ceremony. It was an awesome moment. It was exactly the same setup as we see in all those college movies. An amazing experience. I walked with a couple of my best friends while the other (though were a little late for the function) cheered us. Its a different feeling altogether. The only thing that I missed a lot was my parents and family. I wish they could have made it for the day. It was a nice and a refreshing 3-day break from work.

  • Another very distinct and unusual observation I have in my mind is what I like to call as the ‘three minute love story’. Everyday I walk from my home to office. On the way, comes a bus stop for a middle school. It takes me approximately three minutes to cross the bus stop. So it all started during my early days. I use to see this teenage guy at the bus stop along with other people waiting for the bus. I had seen him keeping a constant eye over one of the teenage girls standing there and waiting for the bus. Every day, I got the picture for just those three minutes. Over the subsequent days (and weeks), I observed an entire season of a teenage love story in three minute episodes. Spread over a chronicle of three-minute episodes, I saw the two (possible) strangers coming to a friendship and (possibly?) becoming a couple. I know this might not be the real story between them but it gave me an idea to write a story with such a unique space-time frame.

So by just letting out parts from my memoirs, has given rise to a write-up. If you really think about it, subjects for a blog can be found anywhere and everywhere! All you need is to look for that connection. For me the connection was an urge for just writing something, which I just did!!

  • I apologise, but, in my opinion, you commit an error. Let's discuss it. Write to me in PM.
